Geoana said the party's Executive Committee unanimously decided to challenge the election outcome at the Constitutional Court and the Central Electoral Bureau, and evidence to support claims the election was rigged will be submitted with the Electoral Bureau.
People close to the matter told MEDIAFAX earlier Romania's leftist Social Democratic Party leaders decided to challenge the election outcome at the Constitutional Court and the Central Electoral Bureau.
Social democrat leaders convened Monday evening in the party's Executive Committee to analyze the results of the presidential election runoff held on Sunday and decide whether they will challenge the election outcome which shows social democrat Mircea Geoana was defeated in the presidential race.
Although Geoana was leading exit-polls Sunday evening, the result shifted by Monday morning and the official vote count in all polling stations shows incumbent Traian Basescu reelected with 50.33% and Geoana losing with 49.66%.
