Ovidiu Dontu, vice-president of the Suceava branch of Romania’s Social Democratic Party (PSD), said Friday that the social democrats considered seven conditions with respect to a potential IMF loan, which, if observed, will allow them to keep an open relation with their democrat liberal partners.

Moreover, Dontu said that, beside a close political partnership with the democrat liberals, the social democrats also want a close relation with Romanian citizens.
Dontu pointed out that, if Romania manages to get a loan from the International Monetary Fund, or IMF, the social democrats request the money be used in the public, not the private sector, as well as to keep jobs and protect consumers’ purchase power.
According to social democrats, banks must use the loan to revive lending, not to repatriate profit, to make the euro adoption target a priority, to negotiate and spend the IMF funds in a transparent way and to back the financing process in education and healthcare.
"If these conditions are accepted, the social democrats will keep an open relation with their democrat liberal coalition partners. We want to prove that we are loyal both to the democrat liberals and to Romanian people," Dontu said.
Prime Minister Emil Boc said Wednesday that Romania's loan agreement with the IMF and the European Commission is a preventive measure and will have a major role in reviving lending.
Boc also said that Romania can stop several negative effects of the economic crisis through preventive measures.
