CFR SA deputy general manager Viorel Scurtu will replace Sabo in an acting capacity, the company announced. Sabo had held the position since February.
On Thursday, the National Anticorruption Department (DNA) indicted Sabo for an act of fraud committed in 2005, when he was general manager of Activ Invest, a private firm.
According to the DNA, Activ Invest illicitly mediated the resale of a number of self-propelled railway cars to state-owned passenger carrier CFR Calatori, with the aim of raising the price above their real commercial value.
The six cars were bought in Germany by ICIM Arad in April 2005 and sold to Activ Invest SRL for 689,248 lei (EUR1=RON4.2447). On October 26, 2005 the cars were bought by railway repair company Remarul 16 Februarie Cluj-Napoca for RON2.67 million. The cars were transported directly from ICIM Arad to Remarul 16 Februarie. On October 21, 2005, before signing the contract with Activ Invest, Remarul 16 Februarie sold the cars to CFR Calatori for RON7.49 million.
Other suspects in the case include former CFR Calatori officials Alexandru Noaptes, Nacu Vanghele and former Nicolae Iosub, as well as SC Remarul 16 Februarie SA Cluj-Napoca officials Vasile Muresan, Simona Florisca , Floarea Iancu and also SC Activ Invest SRL economic manager Claudia Maria Urs and administrator Mitica Calin. The charge is complicity to abuse of position against the public interest, with serious consequences.
