The decision of the president of the National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology, or ANRCTI, regarding number portability was enacted on January 21, 2008 after it was published in the Official Gazette.
Dan Georgescu, ANRCTI president, said that telecom subscribers can thus choose the offer that best suits their needs without having to change their telephone number.
In the same time, he added that the law will stimulate competition between telecom service suppliers.
At the same time, the subscriber who chooses to give up on a certain operator in favor of another, will not have to pay for choosing to keep their telephone number.
The value of the project, that is to be implemented by UTI Systems, Porthus Belgia and Microsoft, rises to EUR580,000, no VAT included.
However, number portability from fixed telephony towards mobile networks and the other way around will not be possible.
