Romanian Transport Min OKs Civil Aeronautic Auth Head’s Resignation

"Today I approved Geica’s resignation from the position of president of the Civil Aeronautic Authority. He explained his resignation saying he does not wish to damage the image of the Authority or the Ministry while he is targeted by media attacks," Orban told MEDIAFAX.

Orban said last week he will reach a decision in the matter when the control report on Geica’s activity is complete.

In the Government meeting held last week, Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu requested Geica’s resignation, saying “he already has a very high income,” ministry sources said.

Labor minister Mariana Campeanu announced mid-October that the Labor Inspectorate and the control body of the Ministry of Transport began an investigation at the Civil Aeronautic Authority, to check the pension files of manager Florea Geica.

The National Integrity Agency too is checking Geica’s income, as his pension is allegedly higher than 30,000 lei (EUR1 = RON3.6645).
