Romanian ’09 Preliminary Budget Sees Pension Spending At 8% Of GDP, Public Salaries At 6.9% Of GDP

According to the preliminary budget draft discussed by Romania authorities and employers’ association and trade union representatives, expenses for pensions, salaries, defense, social aid, education, research and other state obligations will total 27.5% of the GDP.
 
The budget draft stipulates that the rest until 33% of the GDP, the estimated spending limit, will be divided between health and infrastructure investments.
 
The preliminary budget draft sees revenues at 31% of the GDP, the same governmental sources told MEDIAFAX.
 
The National Prognosis Commission estimates Romania’s GDP at 579 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.2390) in 2009.
 
The preliminary 2009 budget projection aims for a budget deficit of 2% to 2.2% of the GDP compared with last year’s 5.2% of GDP.
