Romanian Unionists In Chemical Sector Come Up With Solutions For Employee Protection
Romania’s Federation of Free Unions in the Chemical and Petrochemical Industry (FSLCP) suggests some debts to the state be rescheduled and the “unjustified” suspension of the activities of a company be cancelled to support employees and companies in the economic sector during the financial crisis.

The Federation says the state must create a supporting system via fiscal, management and financial measures of companies in the entire economic sector, while their debits owed to the state should be rescheduled based on when they were acquired and how urgent they are, according to a document shown in a press conference Tuesday.
The Federation said the Government should draw up an emergency ordinance to allow the dismissed employees to keep their work contracts for at least six months at the company’s headquarters, while they receive unemployment financial aid, in order to protect employees against layoffs throughout the entire economic sector.
At the same time, the employer will grant extra money to add to the state aid, to match the salary the employee had before being laid off, for maximum 12 months.
Another proposition made by the federation refers to granting non-reimbursible aid worth EUR2,000 to the unemployed people who plan to start their own business.
Thus, people will be exempted from the payment of some fiscal dues to the state, for a period of two years, but would be able to have access to loans with minimum interest rates they would be bound to retrieve after a grace period of 12 months.
Hiring people who have exceeded retirement age should be limited, the federation said, and the Government should draw up an emergency ordinance granting each employee the right to file litigation against the shutting down of the company they are working for.
The federation believes state unemployment aid should amount to 90% of the salary the employees had when they lost their job.
Another suggestion referred to amending the regulation on state aid for companies with private and state equity, as well as eliminating the discrepancies which disregard competition principles between Romanian drugs and imported ones.
In addition to this, farmers should receive financial aid to be able to grow food in the year 2009.
