Romania’s High Council of Magistrates, or CSM, admitted in the 2007 status report, published Tuesday night, that people’s level of confidence in the judiciary was among the lowest among European Union states and justice reforms have failed to produce conclusive results.

"In 2007, the people’s level of confidence in the judiciary, whether it is the legal system in general, its institutions or their employees, is still low. According to a Eurobarometer in the fall of 2007, justice ranked eighth in a top of institutions Romanians trust, with 26% of respondents," the report noted.

"The low level of confidence targets the system’s institutions, as well as its practitioners, not just judges and prosecutors, but also lawyers, clerks and police,” the report noted.

According to the report, along with Romania’s EU entry in 2007, Romanians’ expectations for a unique quality standard in public services increased.
