However, the leu’s rally against the US dollar came to an end, as the central bank’s indicative weakened 0.2% to 3.0071 units, from 3.0001 units on Monday.
The leu opened slightly up at 4.192/4.193 to the euro, from 4.196/4.2 to the euro at Monday’s closing. It extended its gains in line with the regional trend, and touched an early high at 4.188/4.19 per euro.
It gained even more ground in mid-session, on low volumes, and traded at 4.185/4.1875 versus the euro by GMT1100.
On the monetary market Tuesday morning, overnight rates fell to 4.8%-5.3% a year, from 5%-5.5% a year in the previous session.
