Basescu met Wednesday with banks’ representatives and of the central bank.

“The banks’ reaction is not sxatisfactory and I consider it improper. I proposed them a partnership, but today I heard only complains…what can the state do more. But it’s time for Romanian banks to do something for the economy, too,” Basescu said late Wednesday at the national TV station.

He added the simple keeping of the financing lines is an effort but also a sign of following the agreement with the IMF.

"But I expect more from the banks. I expect dynamism and courage," Basescu

The president mainly blames banks on the high interest rates.

Basescu added, however, he is expecting a positive reaction from the banks in the next days.

Basescu met on Wednesday with representatives of the central bank, of the Romanian Association of Banks and of major banks on the market.

After the meeting, Basescu said the government fulfilled its obligations and that its high time for bankers to respond positively.
