Ruling Party Leader: Government To Pass 2019 Budget On Friday
The leader of Romania’s ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, announced on Wednesday, following a meeting with municipality mayors, that the Government is set to pass the 2019 budget on Friday, following several delays.

Dragnea, who also serves as the country’s Lower Chamber chairman, stated that local administrations would see a 27% higher share of the income tax revenue, while also confirming that 60% of that revenue would be reserved for town halls.
The PSD leader also said that he suggested Bucharest Mayor Gabriela Firea and the capital's sector mayors to hold a meeting with Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici and decide on their exact shares of the city’s budget.
“I listened to them (municipality mayors, ed.). I told them that during discussion with Government representatives and with Mr. Tariceanu we agreed they will have last year’s budgets and some municipalities will have higher incomes. There is a 27% increase for the entire local administration of income tax share revenue (…) I understood that they (the Government, ed.) will pass the bill on Friday, after which it will be sent to the Parliament,” Dragnea said after leaving the meeting.
Uncertainty regarding Romania’s 2019 budget continues as Government officials, ruling coalition leaders and municipality mayors ended a third day of talks, with little in the way of official announcements.
Romania’s ruling PSD-ALDE coalition held a third meeting on the subject in as many days at the Parliament on Wednesday, following which PSD leader Liviu Dragnea and Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici departed to attend a meeting of the Romanian Association of Municipalities (AMR).
The discussions come as representatives of local authorities are unhappy with a new proposed spending share, which sees them take on some of the Government’s expenses in areas such as social services.
