Ruling Party Leader Says Justice Minister “Can’t Carry On” Delaying Judicial Decrees
The chairman of Romania’s ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, criticized Justice Minister Tudorel Toader for delaying the adoption of emergency judicial decrees, stating that PM Viorica Dancila will have to decide whether he remains in office.

Dragnea warned the minister that he “can’t carry on” with delaying previously announced decrees, adding that "tens of bills" were postponed by the Justice Ministry since Toader's appointment.
“Mr. Toader should understand that he cannot carry on like this. He should renounced this attitude. The intention was to have debates in January (on the judicial bills, ed.) and to discuss them three months, and he kept announcing that he will pass decrees. And he didn’t pass them and I don’t think he intends to,” said the PSD leader.
He added that the Parliament did not attempt to pass criminal code amendments again due to the minister pledging to pass them by judicial decree, and that lawmakers will resume work on the bills, which were rejected several times by the Constitutional Court.
Liviu Dragnea also said that Prime Minister Viorica Dancila will decide on the future of Toader’s office.
“Here the prime minister must make a decision. Whether she wants or not to keep him, it is her jurisdiction,” the social-democrat leader concluded.
The Justice Ministry sent for review in March an emergency decree which amends the country’s criminal codes.
