PSD leader Liviu Dragnea confirmed the information following the meeting, stating however that it was subject to another discussion on the matter.

The Lower Chamber chairman said that, while he supported Stefan, executive committee members raised concerns over the fact that Badea was promised support for the full-time office last year, when he resigned his MP term to serve an interim term at the head of the body.

Viorel Stefan stated last week that he filed his candidacy for ASF leadership, and that he was supported by his local PSD organization.

MPs and senators of the parliamentary committees for budget and economy will interview the candidates for the office in a common meeting set for Tuesday, 10.00 local time.

Alongside Badea and Stefan, Andrei-Razvan Micu, Claudia Sava, Adrian Simionescu, Radu Toia and Mircea Ursache have also filed for the office.
