Ruling Party Treasurer: Referendum to be Held in Different Polling Stations to European Elections
Social Democrat Party (PSD) treasurer Mircea Draghici said on Thursday morning that a possible referendum on the justice system hinted by President Klaus Iohannis to be held at the same time with European Parliament elections would require different polling stations from the latter.

The social-democrat official, who is in charge of coordinating the party's electoral campaigns, argued that this is required by the Romanian law, although the text of the current electoral law actually requires two simultaneous votes to be held in the same polling stations.
“The law requires different polling stations. Remember that in the past, when a referendum was held at the same time with any other electoral vote, they were at different polling stations,” said Draghici.
However, Romania’s referendum law states that if a referendum takes place at the same time with European Parliament elections, then “both will be held in the same polling stations, with electoral operations handled by the same electoral bureaus”.
The PSD treasurer also hinted at the fact that the party will not take a stance on the possible referendum.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced last week that he is “nearly decided” on calling a referendum regarding the justice system at the same time with European Parliament elections, on May 26.
