He said sanctioning the Romanian consul to Poland is a must, as well as conducting a professional evaluation of the entire diplomatic staff with Romanian consulships abroad.

“The Prime Minister received on Thursday the preliminary report drawn by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the case of Romanian national Claudiu Crulic. The Prime Minister deemed the report insufficient, especially in what concerns the measures to be taken at the institution level and the responsibility of those who were aware of the situation of Romanian citizen Dan Claudiu Crulic,” the government said in a statement.

Tariceanu said Romanian and Polish authorities should cooperate in an investigation aimed at clearing the circumstances that led to Crulic’s death.

Crulic died of starvation in Poland in January this year, protesting by hunger strike against his incarceration on charges of theft.
