Romanian Transporters To Stage 15-Minute Protest Friday

Romanian passenger transporters will freeze all operations Friday between 14:00 and 14:15 and will call on the Government to extend their route licenses and pay overdue debts to transport operators, transport union federation FORT said in a press release Thursday.

During the 15-minute protest, all vehicles will remain stationed, be they en route, at terminals or at depots.

The union federation criticized „local and county barons”, whose illegal measures aim to undercut established businesses.

According to the press release, land transporters will hold ample protests in capital Bucharest if Friday’s strike is unsuccessful. Protesters have given the Government one week to meet their demands.

Over 70% of all land transport terminals and 80% of passenger transporters are affiliated to FORT.

Late January, federation representatives and Transport Minister Radu Berceanu signed a protocol, which extended route licenses and decided that transporter debts to the national budget would be covered by state debts to transporters.
