Russian drone attack at the border: MApN has deployed two F-16 aircraft to monitor the situation

"The Russian forces resumed their drone strikes on civilian targets and port infrastructure in Ukraine on the morning of January 17, near the border with Romania, in Tulcea County. The monitoring and surveillance systems of the Ministry of National Defense detected violations of Romanian airspace. As a result, starting at 1:35 a.m., two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, part of the Air Police Combat Service, took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea to monitor the air situation. The aircraft returned to base around 3:48 a.m.," the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) announced.

At the same time, the National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to establish alert measures for the population of Tulcea County. Consequently, an RO-Alert message was sent at around 1:39 a.m., and at 3:33 a.m., the alert measures in all affected areas were lifted.

"Teams from the Ministry of National Defense conducted field investigations and discovered traces of a possible drone impact outside Plauru (between Ciatalchioi and Tudor Vladimirescu), near the border. The area has been secured, and teams consisting of specialists from MApN, SRI, and MAI will collect evidence and conduct investigations according to established procedures. MApN forces will continue airspace monitoring and search missions in areas where risks may arise as a result of these incidents. MApN has been and continues to keep allied structures informed in real-time about the situations generated by the attacks, maintaining permanent contact with them. The Ministry of National Defense strongly condemns these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian targets and infrastructure, which are unjustified and in serious violation of international law," the statement concludes.
