He said the country’s Supreme Defense Council, or CSAT, approved the deployment of the troops.
“CSAT approved the deployment of 175 police officers and gendarmes and they will be sent to Kosovo at a date set by EU,” Basescu said.
He said Romania already took necessary steps in fulfilling its promises made during the latest European Council regarding the situation in the Serbian province Kosovo.
Romania feels that a long-term, viable solution in Kosovo cannot be negotiated solely between Belgrade and Pristina, Basescu said, mentioning the situation in the province should be found in light of the principles of the international law currently in force.
