The two were appointed to nine-year terms at the Constitutional Court on May 7, as the nominees of the two chambers of the Romanian Parliament, backed by the ruling PSD-ALDE coalition.

Gheorghe Stan will replace outgoing constitutional judge Stefan Minea as the Lower Chamber’s appointment for the office, while Deliorga was selected by Romania’s Senate to replace Simona-Maya Teodoroiu.

Former presidential advisor Simina Tanasescu was also sworn into office as constitutional judge last week, as the nominee of President Klaus Iohannis.

One third of the Constitutional Court’s nine judges are renewed every three years, with one judge each appointed by Romania’s president, Lower Chamber and Senate.
