Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc on Monday proposed Igas, leader of democrat liberal senators, for the position of interior minister, following the resignation of former Interior Minister Vasile Blaga, amid tensions raised by an unsanctioned protest march of police workers last Friday.
According to a Government press release, Boc took note of Blaga’s resignation and publicly thanked him for his endeavors in view of meeting all requirements for Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area, due in March 2011, as well as for all reforms in the public administration and the decentralization process.
Igas will be sworn in before the president Monday, at 7 p.m., at the Cotroceni presidential palace.
