People close to the matter said Sunday the fuses were produced at a weapon factory in Zarnesti and were exported to Bulgaria. The private ammunition transport was watched over by gendarmes.

According to the sources, the train made three stops on its route to Bulgaria and railway company CFR employees in Giurgiu, close to the Bulgarian border, alerted authorities after they noticed the seal of a car was broken.

Military prosecutors have started investigations in this case.

Interior Ministry spokesman Marius Militaru told a news conference Sunday the 64 detonators were not assembled and are not dangerous.
