The prime minister signed Tuesday the decision dismissing Dan Cristian Georgescu from the position of president of ANRCTI.

The decision becomes effective upon publication in the Official Gazette.

Georgescu said the rationale behind this decision is ungrounded, adding he held no talks whatsoever with Tariceanu on the matter.

"The reasons stated in the decision are ungrounded. I have held no talks whatsoever with the Prime Minister to get the hang of his discontent regarding my professional activity, but I truly believe the growth of the Romanian telecom market, as well as the positive reports of the European Commission on ANRCTI’s activity clearly show the way I have run the country’s telecom regulator over the past four years,“ Georgescu said.

Neither the government nor Georgescu stated the rationale behind this decision.

Georgescu was appointed head of ANRCTI late 2006.

ANRCTI operates as independent regulator in the communication and information technology sector.
