The Bucharest Court of Appeals upheld anticorruption prosecutors’ request to issue a 29-day preventive arrest warrant against Gavrila and Stancescu on charges of influence peddling.

Gavrila is accused of requesting bribes (EUR120,000 in 2007, EUR400,000 in 2008 and EUR200,000 in 2010) in order to use his influence over ANAF and National Customs Administration authorities to allow illegal acts.

Stancescu is accused of requesting bribes to use his influence over Financial Guard officials to turn a blind eye to tax evasion and smuggling.
