Pavelescu stressed Basescu’s “attack” against all candidates for Bucharest mayoralty, except for the democrat liberal candidate, seriously infringes the Constitution.

"PNTCD considers that President Basescu’s “attack” against all candidates for Bucharest mayoralty, except for the democrat liberal candidate, severely infringes the Constitution of Romania," the party’s press statement read.

PNTCD says the Constitution clearly stipulates that the President has no right whatsoever to get involved in political disputes.

Basescu Sunday said he talked to democrat liberal members Vasile Blaga, Adriean Videanu and Liviu Negoita about the “devious schemes” in the electoral campaign for local polls on June 1, stressing social democrat leaders Mircea Geoana and Ion Iliescu are the main “culprits.”
