Olt County Ambulance Drivers Suspected Of Stealing Fuel From Their Vehicles, Possibly Causing Deaths
Two other ambulance drivers from the same city are also suspected of the theft, but were not put under supervision.
The ambulance drivers are accused of stealing part of the fuel allotted for their vehicles while refueling at a gas station. According to case prosecutors, they covered up the theft by driving the vehicles at slower speeds, in order to reduce their fuel consumption. The drivers then illegally sold the fuel for personal gain.
Olt Police is also investigating whether eight deaths in which emergency responders were alerted beforehand could have been avoided, if the drivers did not maintain slow speeds..
Currently, the suspects are accused of embezzlement and forgery, but manslaughter could be added to the list of charges depending on the results of the investigation.
The measures were decided following seventeen raids made by Olt Police in August and the Corabia Ambulance headquarters and at the suspect’s homes. The offences were repeatedly committed between 2015 and 2018, according to prosecutors.
The suspects placed under supervision were also handed an interdiction to work for 60 days.
