Serbian President Thanks Romania For Support In Kosovo Issue

Serbian president Boris Tadic thanked Romania for its support in the Kosovo independence issue, adding he is grateful to the country.

Tadic met with Romanian president Traian Basescu and will also meet with Senate chairman Nicolae Vacaroiu, Chamber of Deputies speaker Bogdan Olteanu and Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu.

He said the fact that Romania is a member of the European Union and maintains its stand toward Kosovo shows there is no agreement across the EU regarding the newly formed state.

Tadic added Basescu is "the traditional friend of Serbia, who believes inSerbia’s integrity, observes international regulations and believes in Serbia’s European future".

Tadic also said Serbia will continue to fight peacefully for its territorial integrity and will not start a war. He added any move the country makes will be with the goal of maintaining its territorial integrity.

Tadic added Serbia is "wounded”. "My people are experiencing hard feeling when several countries are ready to recognize Kosovo’s independence. I share my people’s feeling, but we won’t give in and we will never surrender. We will continue our peaceful fight with a well-defined strategic plan,” Tadic said.

Basescu said Thursday after the meeting with Tadic that "Belgrade must talk to Pristina" and find communication solutions, even if only to protects Serbs in Kosovo.

Basescu added he wishes Serbia good luck and hopes the country will play things wisely, keeping in mind its long term interests.
