Romanian Transport Ministry secretary of state Marin Anton said that Cluj-Napoca and Targu Mures airports will be closed staring tonight, and airports in Suceava, Iasi and Bacau, northern Romania, will not function starting Saturday morning at 7 a.m. local time.
Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc summoned the committee for emergency situations to analyze the problems Romania might face following the volcanic eruption in Iceland and decide what must be done to deal with the situation. Boc said the committee will meet again on Saturday.
According to data analyzed by the committee for emergency situations, the ash cloud will cross the northwestern and northern parts of Romania at an altitude of about 10,000 meters starting 3 a.m. local time and by 9 a.m. it will cover the distance between Oradea and Suceava.
According to the prime minister, it is unlikely that any layer of ash will cover the soil, and no warning regarding this aspect was issued.
