The quake occurred at a depth of 130 kilometers, with a level II intensity on the Mercalli scale at the epicenter.
According to the Mediterranean Seismological Center, the quake took place 55 km northwest of Romanian city Buzau and 16 kilometers northeast of the town Nehoiu, with the epicenter in the southeastern Carpathian Mountains.
This is the second quake with a magnitude higher than 4 degrees Richter in the past month. On April 25 there was a 5.3 degrees Richter quake and it was also felt in Bucharest with an intensity of 3-4 degrees Mercalli.
The National Institute for Research and Development in Earth Physics then announced the quake took place at a depth of 120 km in the Vrancea region, where the Mercalli intensity reached 5 degrees.
