„It is true that no one could have predicted the extent of the economic crisis in the world and in Romania. However, this is no excuse for the complete lack of measures taken by the Romanian authorities,” Coraci said.
The union leader said the Government needs to immediately implement a program to support the economy. Otherwise, Romania could miss out on EU and global recovery opportunities.
Coraci proposes supporting public investments into fields with a multiplicative effect, carried out as a public-private partnership, and stimulating private investments which create added value and jobs. Also, UGIR-1903 calls on public authorities to immediately pay their debts to suppliers and on the state to pay subsidies and VAT owed to agricultural producers.
Entrepreneur representatives also request revised, simpler fiscal legislation on reserve amortization, recognition for business expenses and taxes on reinvested profit. They also ask that SMEs be granted fiscal facilities such as simpler paperwork, a favorable legal framework and a generalized on-line firm registration system.
As regards European funds, the union proposes simpler project submission procedures and improving the administrative capacity of institutions involved in managing structural funds.
UGIR-1903 represents 15% of Romania’s employees and is responsible for 20% of GDP, 35% of industrial production and 65% of the service industry, according to its own data.
