Initially, PNL proposed Daniel Daianu, a member of the European Parliament, for the same position.

During the recent negotiations between the leaders of the parliamentary parties, the liberals obtained an additional membership position in BNR’s Board, Nicolaescu said, adding that one of the party’s two positions will be of deputy governor, initially attributed to the liberal-democrats.

On Tuesday, the Parliament’s reunited budget committees interview the candidates for the BNR Board.

Late September, the parliamentary budget committees were given a 10-day period to decide on the nominees for the central bank’s Board, to make the necessary hearings and to draw up a report.

The parties announced their candidates, but the hearings couldn’t be held because of the political crisis triggered by the social democrat’s departure from the coalition government last week.

Central bank’s Board existing members’ mandates expire October 10. The Board members were appointed by the Parliament in September 2004.
