IMF: Romania To Exit Recession In 2011
Jeffrey Franks, head of the IMF mission to Bucharest, said the media reports were incorrect and the Fund doesn’t forecast an economic decline for next year.
Romania was hit hard by the global downturn in 2009, recording an economic decline of 7.1%. For this year, the IMF estimates a contraction of around 1.9%, followed by growth of 1.5% in 2010.
An IMF mission is currently in Bucharest to review Romania’s progress under a EUR13 billion standby loan.
The IMF will present revised forecasts for Romania’s economy by the end of the mission on November 1, Franks said.
