Against the US dollar, the leu’s indicative lost 0.8% to 3.0183 units, after having gained over 2% to a 12-month high in the previous session.
The leu opened slightly lower on the day at 4.186/4.188 per euro, amid a negative sentiment in the region as the crisis in Japan worsens.
At around GMT1100, the leu traded at 4.1855/4.187 to the euro.
Elsewhere in the region, the Polish zloty was down 0.77% versus the euro, while Hungary’s forint was losing around 0.6%.
On the money market Tuesday, overnight rates fell to 3.8%-4.3% a year, from 3.9%-4.4% a year the day before.
