Sixty-Three Romanian Nationals Allowed To Leave Gaza - Foreign Ministry

Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said Monday in a press release that 63 Romanian nationals, with both Romanian and Palestinian citizenship, received green light from Israeli authorities to leave the Gaza Strip, via the Erez border crossing.

Following the constant intervention of the ministry and Romania’s Embassy to Tel Aviv, Israeli authorities allowed all 63 Romanian nationals to leave the Gaza Strip on January 5 via the Erez crossing.

The evacuation operation was conducted in cooperation with Israel’s diplomatic and military authorities and with the support of the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Gaza, which provided buses with a capacity of 200 seats to transport evacuees from Gaza City to Erez.

The embassy staff was deployed at the Erez crossing to issue the necessary travel papers and make sure that the evacuees reach Jordan via Israel, if Romanian nationals make it to Erez.

Romania’s Embassy to Tel Aviv keeps in close touch with Romanian nationals in the area to continue evacuation operations.

The ministry said 55 Romanian nationals (14 women, five men and 36 children) and nine Palestinian citizens requested consulate assistance in leaving the Gaza Strip until Sunday, GMT 1000.

A spokesperson of the Israeli military said Monday morning that two hundred Palestinians, who also have Romanian, Norwegian, German, Filipino, Polish, Austrian, Spanish, French and Canadian citizenship, would receive green light to leave the Gaza Strip on January 5 via Erez.
