Romanian Anticorruption Prosecutors Indict Former Bacau Mayor

According to the charges, on February 17, 2010, Sechelariu transferred a sum of money to Sutu, in order to bribe two of the informers. In exchange, they were to use their influence with the Bacau Court of Appeals to obtain a favorable solution to a court case involving SC Transport Public SA Bacau, a public transport ompany managed by Sutu and in which Sechelariu is a shareholder.

Sutu was detained by anticorruption prosecutors the next day, initially for 24 hours. The Court of Bucharest Sector I extended his arrest to 29 days and, later, until April 18, 2010.

The case has been forwarded to the Court of Bucharest.

The DNA initially asked that Sechelariu be put under arrest early March, but the request was rejected by the Court of Bucharest Sector I, which argued that evidence was insufficient.
