The information was confirmed by communications and information society minister Gabriel Sandu.
"In the current format, Law 298/2008 on the recording of data from communications exceeds the provisions of Directive 2006/24/EC. The normative act will be amended by the end of this year, a deadline by which all telecom operators will ensure the technical conditions for the security of information obtained," Sandu told MEDIAFAX.
Law 298/2008 on the recording of data generated or processed by electronic communications services meant for the public or by public communications networks, which came into force on January 21, states that communications services suppliers can supply prosecutors with traffic and tracking data corresponding to internet access, e-mail and internet telephony only if such information is required within an ongoing criminal investigation.
