All Bucharest Airports Lack Thermal Scanners – Sources

None of the airports in Bucharest have thermal scanners, and the only device of this type, initially set up in the Baneasa Airport, was returned, after several days of testing, to the private company that had donated it, airport sources told MEDIAFAX Monday.

Otopeni Airport spokesperson Valentin Iordache told MEDIAFAX Monday there has never been a thermal scanner on "Henri Coanda", and the only measures applied were those decided by authorities.

"We have applied all measures requested by authorities. A thermal scanner was not among the measures requested," Iordache said.

In turn, the Baneasa Airport manager, Stefan Mladin, said Monday the airport tested a thermal scanner for several days.

"We wanted to see how useful it is. These were simple tests. Anyway, the device did not clearly indicate if a person has the flu or not," Stefan Mladin explained.

According to the World Health Organization, thermal scanners set up in airports are not relevant.

Romania so far confirmed five cases of type A H1N1 flu, as the virus was brought in the country by two women arriving to Bucharest from New York.
