Social Democrat Leadership To Analyze Research Minister Proposals On Thursday

The top brass of Romania’s ruling Social Democrat Party will hold a National Standing Bureau meeting on Thursday to discuss proposals for the vacant office of research and innovation minister, party sources told MEDIAFAX.

The meeting was scheduled as the 45-day interim term of minister Viorel Stefan will end this week.

According to the sources, PSD senators Ecaterina Andronescu, Daniel Breaz and Serban Valeca are among the discussed proposals for the vacant portfolio.

Former Research Minister Nicolae Burnete announced his resignation on August 31, without specifying any reasons for the decision. This made him the first minister of the Dancila cabinet to leave office. Viorel Stefan was appointed interim minister on September 12.

The party is also due to perform a government reshuffle in the coming weeks, with Prime Minister Viorica Dancila announcing earlier in the day that she will complete an assessment of the activity of current ministers next week.
