Cosma was charged with helping finish a transaction involving land from the Ciuperceasca military base in Prahova county while activating as a notary in 2008, without respecting legal regulations for land purchases.

According to anticorruption prosecutors, the land – which previously hosted a military barrack – was illegally sold at a highly undervalued price, following a prior agreement between former Prahova County Council chairman Florin Anghel and county councilor Danut Cornea, who was empowered to sell the land on behalf of the council.

The two were helped by Cosma, whose father was Anghel’s predecessor as county council chairman. The social-democrat MP disregarded the fact that no assessment study was made to set the minimal prices for an eventual sale, which was legally required for public purchases at the time.

The court’s decision is not final and can be appealed.
