The school’s headmistress, Steluta Mitrea, said that once Romania became a European Union state, a large number of pupils in her care started disappearing.
She said that most of the children come from Rroma families who do not wish to talk about what is happening.
“The problem will definitely get worse. Everyone here knows about the benefits you can get from Britain and the healthcare and schools,” said Mitrea.
British police said this week there has been a "dramatic increase" in street thefts and petty crime since Romania and Bulgaria joined the EU 12 months ago.
A spokesperson with the National Police Office confirmed that 120 children, most aged between 12 and 18, had been smuggled to the UK and forced to work on the streets.
