In May, FDI as contribution to the share capital of Romanian companies reached EUR120.3 million, up 30.6% against EUR92 million reported in May 2007, ONRC said.

Some 5,600 companies with foreign capital were founded in Romania in the first five months of the year, down from 6,515 newly founded companies in the similar period of 2007.

Romania’s FDI reached EUR4.1 billion in the first five months of 2008, nearly double on the year, the central bank said in a statement.

In 2007, foreign direct investments in Romania topped EUR7 billion, compared with EUR9.1 billion in 2006.
