Health minister Eugen Nicolaescu said the recalculation of the CIP (Carriage and Insurance Paid) price would not affect this year’s national sole insurance fund.

The minister said the officials of ARPIM and Health Ministry will recalculate Monday all CIP drug prices, adding they would also decide on a price-setting method for 2009.

ARPIM’s executive manager, Dan Zaharescu, said the association’s involvement in the matter targets to facilitate patients’ access to drugs.

In the light of recent drug supply crisis, the minister cared to stress there had never been a war between the authorities, drug importers and distributors.

"Everything goes down to the ministry’s stance with respect to the pharmaceutical industry. As minister, I ought to defend people’s access to drugs. My duty and that of the National Health Insurance House is to set drug consumption within the country’s budget. I urged ARPIM to call on the government on the matter, otherwise, this issue would have become a burden for patients," the minister said.

Last week, pharmacists said prices have to be updated immediately in accordance with currency exchange rates, medicine prescriptions should to the common international name and prescription budgets must be implemented as soon as possible.
