The Council on Tuesday approved the number of Romanian troops and the military means that can be deployed for operation theaters outside the Romanian territory in 2011, the press release reads.
The Council on Tuesday decided to submit the country’s National Defense Strategy, proposed by President Traian Basescu, to the Parliament for approval. Basescu said he is open to lawmakers’ recommendations in this respect.
The Defense Council meeting, headed by President Traian Basescu, was attended by Prime Minister Emil Boc, Interior Minister Vasile Blaga, Defense Minister Gabriel Oprea, Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi, Finance Minister Sebastian Vladescu, Economy Minister Adriean Videanu, Justice Minister Catalin Marian Predoiu, the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service head Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, the chief of the Romanian General Staff, admiral Gheorghe Marin, the presidential adviser on national security, Iulian Fota, presidential adviser Anca Ilinoiu (head of the Department for International Relations), Defense Council secretary Ion Oprisor and President Basescu’s spokesperson Valeriu Turcan.
