Romania Late Payments On Loans Topping RON20,000M Up 4.45% In July

Romanian overdue payments for loans worth at least 20,000 lei (EUR1-RON4.2434) amounted to RON6.076 billion end July, up 4.45% on the month, central bank data showed Monday.

In the January-July period, overdue loans increased by 82.8% compared to the end of 2008.

Total loans and commitments assumed by lending institutions amounted to RON251 billion in January-July, down 0.8% from the end of last year. Compared to July 2008, however, total loans were up 5.86% in July.

Central bank data show late loans by up to 15 days shrank 44% on the month to RON348 million in July. Compared to the end of 2008, however, short-term overdue loans were up 43.2% in July.

Loans overdue by 16 to 30 days reached RON190 million in July from RON200 million the previous month. Compared to the end of 2008, they were up 15%.

Total loans overdue by 31 to 60 days increased 33% on the month in July to RON540 million. Compared to the end of 2008, they were up by a factor of 2.35.

As to loans overdue by 61 to 90 days, their amount rose 5.45% on the month in July and by 73% compared to the end of 2008.

Loans overdue by over 90 days rose 12.9% on the month in July to RON3.148 billion, and were up 2.8 times from the end of last year, according to central bank data.

The number of Romanian debtors (legal and natural persons) was down 2.45% on the month to 196,246 people in July. Still, their number was up 41% compared to the end of last year and 85% higher than in July 2008.

Total number of debtors rose 1.6% on the year in July, keeping above one million persons.
