The committee voted 6-2 to give a favorable review for the proposal, following a meeting attended by representatives of the SRI and of the Finance Ministry.
According to committee chairman Claudiu Manda, the project sees SRI allotted a total budget of RON2.465 billion for 2019.
He added that the committee did not receive the amendments filed by Dragnea, which proposes a cut of RON295 million from the SRI budget in favor of several Health Ministry projects.
“The committee was not notified about any such amendment, we could not debate any such amendment. The decision will have to be taken by the budget-finance committee,” Manda said.
Romania's government on Friday adopted the 2019 state budget, built on an economic growth projection of 5.5%, which critics said is overly optimistic, and targeting a deficit of 2.55% of gross domestic product.
According to the schedule decided by the Parliament’s standing bureaus on Saturday, the amendments will be reviewed by parliamentary committees on Monday, with the final vote in the combined chambers scheduled for Wednesday, starting with 16.00 local time.
