Basescu was reelected president for another five years Sunday, but the Constitutional Court hasn’t yet validated the poll because social democrats, whose candidate lost the election, want the election cancelled citing fraud.

Meanwhile, Romania needs a new government after Emil Boc’s Cabinet collapsed in a no-confidence vote two months ago, and Basescu’s democrat liberals don’t hold enough seats in Parliament to push through a new government on their own.
