Collected units will be stored and processed in Denmark, MedLife said in a press release.
Since the launch of the MedLife maternity ward, three years ago, the unit has registered some 2,000 childbirths, according to company data.
The main competitors on the Romanian stem cell market are Cord Blood Center, Biogenis and Stem-Health Unirea.
MedLife currently operates a private hospital, four hyperclinics, five analysis labs, 28 general medicine centers, five specialized medicine centers and works with over 110 partner clinics nationwide.
For 2010, the company aims to increase its sales by 20%, at EUR31-32 million, a pace similar to the one recorded in 2009, after opening four new hyperclinics.
MedLife shareholders, the Marcu family and the International Finance Corporation, sold late last year a 36.25% stake to private fund SGAM Eastern Europe, held by a subsidiary of the Societe Generale group. The transaction was estimated at over EUR20 million. The Marcu family still holds the majority stake, namely 51%, while IFC holds 12.75%.
