Bulgaria Asks Romania To Ensure Gas Transit To Bulgaria – Press
According to a press release of the Bulgarian presidency, Parvanov talked to Basescu on the phone about the effects of the gas crisis on the economies of the two neighboring countries.
As Ukraine decided to supply Bulgaria with natural gas from its reserved, Parvanov asked Romania to ensure its free transit via the Romanian distribution network if the need arises.
In turn, Basescu committed to start transporting Ukrainian gas to Bulgaria as soon as it reaches the Isaccea station in Romania. Basescu also said Romania is willing to supply Bulgaria with electricity if the need may be.
The two officials also agreed on the need to start building infrastructure to connect the countries’ respective gas distribution networks, a project to be achieved with financial support from the European Union.
