Bringing Snowdrops Into Hungary Is A Crime

Hungarian authorities notified Romanian border authorities in the county of Arad that bringing snowdrops into Hungary is a crime, as the plant is protected by law.

The Arad County Border Police (IJPF) Press Office announced that people caught carrying snowdrops over to Hungary may be charged with destruction of the environment.
 
According to the Hungarian notice, “the monetary value of a single snowdrop is HUF10,000.” (EUR1 = HUF300.474)
 
“This plant, as well as leucojum aestivum (summer snowflake) may not be brought into or picked on Hungarian territory, as they are strongly protected,” IJPF Arad spokesman Mihaela Les said.
