Romania Feb New Car Sales +14% MM, -57.5% YY

Dacia, made locally by French Renault’s unit Dacia Automobile, was the best-traded brand on the local new cars market in February with 1,142 units, up from 782 units sold the month before.

Ford followed suit with 557 units sold in February, while Volkswagen ranked third with 472 units.

In the first two months, new car sales amounted to 7,254 units, down 55.2% on the year.

Romanian auto production rose 92% on the year to 51,873 vehicles in January to February, APIA said. The bulk of the cars, namely 48,622, were exported.

In 2009, new car sales in Romania fell 54% on the year to 147,962 units.
