Hydrologists Issue Code Red Flood Warning For Rivers In NE, C Romania

Hydrologists also issued a code orange warning valid for the same period, concerning the rivers Siret and Suceava, in the counties of Suceava, Botosani, Iasi, Neamt, Bacau and Vrancea, and the rivers Tarnava Mica and Tarnava Mare, in the counties Sibiu, Mures and Alba.

A previous code yellow warning for rivers in the counties Salaj, Satu Mare, Timis, Prahova, Buzau, Suceava, Neamt, Bacau, Vrancea, Galati, Vaslui, Iasi and Botosani is still in effect, hydrologists said.

Petre Stanciu, director of the National Institute for Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) said Sunday that the Danube’s flow is rising and could cause problems in the counties of Braila and Galati, and in the Delta.

Ion Sandu, head of the National Meteorology Administration, said a new rain and flood warning would be issued Monday morning at 9 a.m., concerning counties in the northeast of Romania. The advisory will be updated over the next three days, he said, pointing out the counties that should pay special attention to the quantity of precipitation: Maramures, Suceava, Botosani, Bistrita-Nasaud, Harghita, Neamt, Iasi, Covasna, Vrancea, Galati, Vaslui and Bacau.
